Residents of the North Shore are exposed to diesel emissions from nearby marine traffic, the commercial trucking accessing industry, and traffic from the Staten Island Expressway. The Coalition has undertaken an anti-idling project to address commercial truck idling occurring in neighborhoods throughout the North Shore. Currently we are working with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s I-Watch Program, which coordinates enforcement of New York State idling laws.
